Notice: The Venango County Homemakers decided to make changes in 2008. This is your opportunity for input into the new direction the Homemakers will take. Suggestions for new projects or goals are greatly encouraged. If you have an idea that the Homemakers would want to consider, please contact your Homemaker Advisory representative. All ideas will be considered at the next Homemaker meeting in April.

To Venango Homemakers:

Homemaker Advisory Committee Meeting

The Venango County Homemaker Advisory Committee met January 28, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Homemaker Scholarship Fund showed a balance of $1576.20; General Fund, $764.80. Cheri Siverling from UPMC Birthing Center explained about the need for burial items and bereavement articles. She reported that 6 out of about 500 babies were still born in 2007. They need burial gowns, bears, bracelets, and blankets that can be knitted, crocheted, or sewn. Donna Stoups will be asked to set up a work day to learn to make some of the items.

The Holiday Tea was evaluated.

New and returning members of the Homemaker advisory board are: Kay Dittman, Scrubgrass; Alice Schwab, Pinegrove; and Joan Seely.

Possible programs for the Spring Tea

  • Pat's Pottery
  • Heinz Field, Jeff Fowler
  • Composting, Master Gardener
  • Birthing Items, Donna Stoups

Announcements for the Venango County Fair volunteer dinner were distributed.

Twelve scholarships were approved, each receiving $125.00.

Doneva suggested a ballot vote to decide whether to continue raising money for the Homemaker Scholarship Fund or to change to a new project. Members voted 6-2 to change to something new. Alice Schwab moved to have the Quilt Show in 2008, seconded by Doris Shaffer. Again the vote was taken by ballot. Members voted 8-1 against the motion. There will be no quilt show in 2008. The scholarship fund will be renamed the Homemaker fund.
